Local man nabbed in gambling house raid

A Cheraw man was one of six people arrested Oct. 11 in a raid of an illegal gambling house in Marlboro County.

Jack Donaven Lewis, 32, of 1109 State Road, Cheraw, was arrested while Marlboro County Sheriff's deputies were serving a search warrant on White Lane in Bennettsville.

Arrested with Lewis were 54-year-old Johnny White, 49-year-old Sammie Lee Bradford, 39-year-old Darrow Eugene McRae, 42-year-old Sam Purcell and 42-year-old Quincy Sloan. All five of the other men were from Bennettsville.

All six were charged with playing unlawful games and betting.
