Randolph Withers Shannon, Jr., 98, of Society Hill, died Thursday, April 29, 2004.

A memorial service was held at 4 p.m. Sunday, May 2 from Grace Episcopal Church with the Rev. Dean Philip Linder officiating. Burial followed in Quaker Cemetery.

Born in Jefferson, Mr. Shannon was a son of the late Randolph Withers Shannon Sr. and Rosa Miller Shannon. He was the founder of Shannon Pecan Company, a member of First Presbyterian Church in Bennettsville, and a United States Army Air Corps veteran having served in World War II. He was also a member of the VFW in Florence.

Surviving are children, Randolph W. Shannon III of New Brighton, Pa., Susan Kershaw Shannon Spraker and Phillip McCants Shannon of Orlando, Fla.; five grandchildren, William Foster Shannon, Benjamin Davis Shannon, Robert Randolph Daly, Caroline McCants Daly and Emma Elizabeth Shannon; a sister, Betty Shannon Patterson of Columbia.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucy McCants Shannon; a sister, Margaret Shannon Carter; and a granddaughter, Beverly Diane Shannon.
