From LOCAL REPORTS
Chesterfield County First Steps is among the 28 organizations that will receive funding from the Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina through its Good Samaritan Grant program.
Chesterfield County First Steps received a $9,990 grant in order to implement Parenting and Life Skills Seminars (PALSS) with local churches and its county-based state agency partners. These agency partners include the South Carolina Department of Social Services (DSS), South Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC), South Carolina Employment Security Commission and the South Carolina Department of Education.
PALSS will serve 120 parents with children 5 years old and younger in Chesterfield County and will attempt to break the cycle of poverty by providing skill-building seminars. These seminars will help parents improve their job skills and personal financial management.
The program will also assist parents in navigating public assistance and social services systems, understand and manage their family's health and become an active partner in their children's education.
Across South Carolina, the Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina will award over $270,000 to 28 agencies, organizations, churches and community groups.
