The Chesterfield County Sheriff's Department delivered a tremendous hit to the local marijuana industry Tuesday when it snatched up more than an estimated $200,000 worth of plants growing in a field west of Pageland.

Chesterfield County Sheriff Sam Parker said his office received a tip Tuesday afternoon that five or 10 plants had been found growing near S.C. Highway 9. Responding officers discovered there were more than 200 plants ranging in height from 2 to 14 feet tall.

No arrests were made Tuesday, but an investigation continues to determine to whom the plants belong.

The marijuana harvest was not the only major bust sheriff's deputies had on Tuesday. Officers interrupted a man in the process of cooking methamphetamine.

Parker said his department had been staking out the house in Jefferson for about a week. A traffic stop near the home around midnight Tuesday revealed that methamphetamines were being manufactured there.

A warrant has been issued for Chris Donahue of Jefferson for making the methamphetamines. Donahue has another outstanding warrant for manufacturing methamphetamines.
