The Cheraw girls finished seventh of the 22 teams competing, while the Chesterfield girls wound up 20th. The Cheraw boys pieced together an 18th-place finish of the 24 teams in their division.
Top individual finishers in the girls race were Mary Saleeby (Cheraw) with a time of 22 minutes, 11 seconds, followed by Ashley McLain (Cheraw), 22:39; Emma Saleeby (Cheraw), 23:24; Elizabeth Turner (Chesterfield), 25:45; Brooke McLain (Cheraw), 25:47; Casey Gooden (Chesterfield), 25:49; Nancy Crawley (Cheraw), 26:07; Jacqueline Jackson (Chesterfield), 26:12; Stephanie Sellers (Chesterfield), 26:27; Brittiny Gandy (Cheraw), 26:54; Courtney Caulder (Chesterfield), 28:01; and Christian Hainey (Cheraw), 32:29.
The ladies from Christ Church won the 1A/2A cross country state championship this year with a total team score of 90 points. Christ Church's score was 151 points ahead of Cheraw and 373 points ahead of Chesterfield.
In the boys' race, it was runners from Gilbert that took the state's top prize, putting together a total of 77 points. Gilbert's final was 374 points better than that of Cheraw's.
The top individual finishers for Cheraw in last Saturday's race were Dameon Pegues with a time of 19 minutes, 22 seconds, John Van Deman, 19:49; Ryan Poole, 21:02; Brit Tomlinson, 21:09; Ben Hutson, 23:38; Josh Evans , 24:25; and John Evans, 25:03.
