Walter D. Lyons, 81, of Darlington, died Monday, Nov. 29, 2004 in a Florence hospital after an illness.

A funeral service was held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 1 from the First Church of the Nazarene in Florence. Burial followed in Darlington Memory Gardens.

Born in Chesterfield County, Mr. Lyons was a son of the late William Edward and Mary Morris Lyons, and the widower of Viola Brook Lyons. He served in the United States Navy during World War II and was a retired truck driver. Mr. Lyons was a member of First Church of The Nazarene.

Surviving are three sons, David Lyons Sr. of Rockwood, Tenn., Donnie Lyons of Goose Creek, and Marty Lyons of Pensacola, Fla.; four daughters, Wanda L. Brockway of Florence, Jeanie L. Sartin of Echols W.Va., Judy Bailey of Florence, and Dawn Lyons of Hendersonville, N.C.; 20 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Jules T. Lyons of Charlotte N.C.

Arrangements were entrusted to Belk Funeral Home.
