A funeral service was held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 9 from Macedonia Baptist Church. Burial followed in Montrose/Sandhill Cemetery.
Born in Chesterfield County, Mr. Burns was a son of the late Isaac Burns and Tilda Buckhanna Burns, and the widow of Fannie Hughes Burns. He grew up in the Cash Community and was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church. Mr. Burns was affiliated with Saint David Lodge 467 F&AM (PHA). He was employed with Becker Sand & Gravel.
For several years Mr. Burns attended Society Hill Day Care and recently resided at McCoy Memorial Nursing Center, Bishopville.
Surviving are four children, Vance (Alean) burns Jr., Samuel (Anne) Burns, Augustine (Floyd) Soon, J.D. (Y'eVonne) Burns, all of Cheraw; an adopted granddaughter, Mary Alice Burns of Alexandria, Va.; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; five brothers-in-law, Lester (Marie) Hughes, Legrather (Gloria) Hughes and Rivers Hailey all of Cheraw, Samuel (Ann) Hughes of Farrell, Pa., and Alvester (Mary Alice) Hughes of High Point, N.C.; a sister-in-law, Ollie Hughes of Cheraw; and a number of other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Edd Burns, and two sisters, Ann Tate and Mary Burns.
Arrangements were entrusted to Reid's Funeral Home.
