Chesterfield Mayor and Chesterfield High School alumni John Douglas invites all alumni interested in forming the Chesterfield Association to meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 23 at the Chesterfield Community Center.
With the purpose of providing community support for all Chesterfield area schools and acting as a mechanism for all alumni living in Chesterfield or other areas, the group would be kept informed of the schools' successes and needs.
While alumni associations are a good way to network and stay in touch with classmates and other graduates, they historically create scholarships, help with building funds and a number of other scholastic, academic and community needs.
Coulter Academy has an alumni association. Although the school is no longer in existence, members of the alumni group continue to fund scholarships.
Saying he is unaware of any alumni associations in the county of existing public high schools, Douglas said he would like Chesterfield to begin the trend.
