Nearly a month after being arrested for growing marijuana at his home, 47-year-old John Smith of Chesterfield was arrested Monday for selling the drug.
According to Sgt. Dewayne Gillespie of the Chesterfield County Sheriff's Department, Smith was seen selling the drug twice over the course of three days, which led to his arrest Monday afternoon. He was charged with distribution of marijuana.
Smith is one of Chesterfield County's more notable marijuana offenders. He has been arrested four times in the past five years on marijuana charges.
On June 30, he was arrested when five marijuana plants were found growing outside his home. Officers had gone to his home in response to a complaint they had received from several parents saying Smith was selling marijuana to their children. A search of Smith's home at the time also revealed about an ounce of the harvested product.
Smith was released from jail on a $20,000 bond following the June 30 arrest.
Smith is being held in the Chesterfield County Detention Center while he awaits a bond hearing for his most recent arrest. He has yet to go to trial for the charges of manufacturing and simple possession of marijuana stemming from the June 30 arrest.
