A Cheraw man said to be walking up and down the street with a snake and threatening to kill his neighbors turned his aggression on a Chesterfield County Sheriff's deputy last Sunday.
According to reports from the Sheriff's Department, 47-year-old Steven William Teal of 181 Quail Run Lane threatened to kill four of his neighbors as well as Deputy Jeff Outlaw.
Outlaw responded to Teal's residence around 7 p.m. and questioned four of his neighbors who had called in the complaint about Teal.
When Outlaw approached Teal, Teal reportedly told Outlaw to get off his property. Teal had a knife in his hand at the time of the encounter and continuously cursed at the deputy as he tried to question him.
With Teal refusing to cooperate and put the knife down, Outlaw reportedly told Teal he was being charged with disorderly conduct. Teal continued cursing and brandishing his weapon at Outlaw, and Outlaw sprayed him with pepper spray.
Threatening to kill the deputy, Teal then threw his knife at Outlaw. The knife hit the porch railing beside the deputy, and Outlaw kicked it where he thought it would be out of Teal's reach. Blinded by the pepper spray, Teal was then subdued by Outlaw, and the man was placed under arrest.
Teal has been charged with disorderly conduct, communicating threats, and assaulting a police officer.
