Senior point guard Brandon Reid, who did not play in the Braves home-opening loss to Marlboro County Dec. 9, lead all scorers with 22 points in the win. Reid also dished out eight assists.
Cliff Matthews was Cheraw's other offensive leader, putting up 17 points while grabbing nine rebounds and blocking five shots.
Cheraw head coach Tony Harrell said the win was a big one for his program.
“We played extremely well as a team and also played some really good defense,” Harrell said.
After a weekend of rest, the Braves were at it again, picking up a 74-61 victory over West Florence on the road.
Five Cheraw players scored in double digits in the win, as Reid led the team with 26, followed by Dawhite Baldwin with 14, Matthews 12, Josh Henderson 11 and Jaron Brown 10.
Harrell said the win over Florence was another overall good team effort, but his squad was still making a few mistakes that would need to be cleaned up.
The Cheraw boys' basketball team will be in action next Wednesday through Friday as the Braves participate in a holiday tournament in Sumter. The Braves will also compete in the Farm Bureau Invitational tournament Dec. 28-30 in Chesterfield.
