PATRICK - Frank James Wilkes, 76, died Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2005.

A funeral service was held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 31 from Mt. Olive Baptist Church. Burial followed in St. Joseph Cemetery.

Born in Chesterfield County, Mr. Wilkes was a son of the late Clara Wilkes and Pormel Harper. He joined Piney Grove Baptist Church at an early age and later joined Mt. Olive Baptist Church. Mr. Wilkes served there as a Deacon since 1941 and later became chairman of the board. He was employed for many years at the Sash, Door and Lumber Company and later worked for Cheraw Dyeing and Finishing Company, from which he retired. Mr. Wilkes was president of the Truelight Gospel Singers, served in the community as part of the Patrick Jaycees and was president of the Singing Convention for many years.

Surviving are his wife, Dora A. Wilkes; three sons, James (Marie) Wilkes, Herbert (Joeann) Wilkes and Sgt. (Ret.) Leopold (Bonnie) Wilkes; three daughters, Mary, Willie Mae and Barbara; 12 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; an aunt, Bertha Scurry of Wilmington, Del.; an adopted sister, Katherine McKenzie; three sisters-in-law, Daisy Larry, Betty Jackson, and Floretha McFarlan; a brother-in-law, Ernest McFarlan; and a number of relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by a sister and two sons.

Arrangements were entrusted to Reid's Funeral Home.
