A funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, March 23 from Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Clanton Plains Baptist Church Cemetery.
Born in Chesterfield, Mr. Gibson was a son of the late John C. “Lummie” and Bertha Cleo Kirkley Gibson. He was a retired sewing machine mechanic and a United States Army veteran, having served two tours of duty in Vietnam. Mr. Gibson was a member of Oakland Baptist Church and was a member of the Ruby-Mt. Croghan American Legion Post 134.
Surviving are four brothers, James W. (Sarah) Gibson of Kannapolis, N.C., Billy T. “Bate” Gibson of Chesterfield, Robert L. (Lib) Gibson of Spartanburg, and John “Jimmy” (Bonnie Jean) Gibson Jr. of Chesterfield; four sisters, Bobbie (Bobby Jule) Gulledge of Concord, N.C., Betty (Billy) Sellers of Cheraw, Jean Rhynes of Ruby, and Gail (Tom) Cassidy of Chesterfield; and a number of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Jay Harold Gibson, and a sister, Genora Faile.
Arrangements were entrusted to Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home.
