Chesterfield and Cheraw boy's track and field teams finished first and second at the first region meet of the season. The Rams and Braves dominated the meet.
Chesterfield won the event by collecting 161 total team points and Cheraw finished second with 114 team points despite being without starters Chris Massey and Brandon Reid. Cheraw and Chesterfield combined to pick up victories in 10 of the 17 events. The two teams also combined for 52 placers in 17 events.
“Pretty good meet for us. We need some more runners. If we can ever get them settled down, we will be fine. Cliff continued to dominate his events. Cliff, Detetrusess Wingate, and Jaron Brown are really stepping up and becoming leaders for us. Brandon Reid and Chris Massey will be key runners for us. Josh Johnson has really surprised me, he has only been pole vaulting for four or five weeks and already reached 9-feet 6 inches,” Cheraw coach Ben McQueen said.
Both teams will be back in action this Thursday in a 4:30 p.m. region meet at Cheraw. Cheraw will host a county meet at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.
