A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 10 from Mount Airy A.M.E. Zion with the Rev. Donna C. Butler officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Born in Chesterfield, Mr. Watson was a son of the late Alexander and Mary Pate Watson, and was the widower of Betty Matthews. He attended the Chesterfield County public schools. Mr. Watson was a kind and friendly person who will be missed by all who knew him.
Surviving are three sons, Bobby Leander Watson of Bishopville; Chris Covington of Greenville, and Phillip Covington of Pageland; five stepchildren, Teresa (Wayne) McManus of Atlanta, Ga., Jeanette Covington of Monroe, N.C., and Don Covington, Andre Covington and Wayne Covington of Pageland; a brother, Levander (Claudette) Watson of Chesterfield; 16 grandchildren; and a number of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by a son, Leon Covington.
Arrangements were entrusted to Flemming Funeral Home - Chesterfield.
