Wal-Mart Stores Inc. has joined in the fight against domestic violence by partnering with S.C. Attorney General Henry McMaster.

The partnership will provide the women of South Carolina with information about outreach services, counseling and support for victims of domestic violence.

Initially, the project was implemented in five Wal-Mart stores located in the Pee Dee region: Cheraw, Dillon, Hartsville, Manning and Marion.

Counselors from the Pee Dee Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence assisted the project's kickoff Oct. 14, manning resource tables and answering questions outside these locations and also in Cheraw.

Domestic Violence Awareness posters will be displayed in the women's restrooms and dressing rooms of the five Wal-Mart stores with tear-off resource cards, written in both English and Spanish, listing the telephone numbers for domestic violence hotlines and local shelters. This will allow customers and associates to privately gather the information.

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. also announced a $10,000 donation to support key domestic violence initiatives in the state.
