Wachovia Bank customers will soon be able to do business in a new building on Market Street.

“We are opening up the new building to better compensate our customers,” said Dione Streater, Financial Center manager.

When the new facility opens Dec. 7, employees from both bank locations on Market Street will all be housed under one roof.

“We have had a rapid decline in the amount of personnel that we have,” Streater said. “We have gone from 30 to 10 in the last 10 years, and we no longer needed two buildings.”

Wachovia management is looking to better serve their customers through the new building.

“We had to maintain our drive-thru service for our customers,” Streater said. “We have valued the opportunity to be in the historic district, but the move is needed.”

Plans to construct the new facilities began in 2004, and everything became official in January 2005.

The bank will also be able to maintain all of its current staff.
