CHERAW - Beginning in April and periodically the rest of the year, the Cheraw Country Club will be offering a Cheraw Area Youth Learn To Golf clinic, free. For six Saturdays in a row, 10a.m.-noon, the clinic will be held at the Country Club with the express purpose of introducing young people to the game of golf.

The Cheraw Country Club is the sponsor for the Cheraw High Golf Team and not only hosts their matches,, but provide free golf and range balls to members of the Brave's Golf team to hone their skills. CHS golf team members have received college scholarships or signed letters of intent with Clemson, Carolina, or Furman.

The six-week introductory program is free to all youth ages 6-17.

Each Saturday , the first hour of instruction will be held inside the club and will cover important aspects of the game of golf such as rules, etiquette, etc. The second hour consists of golf instruction and hitting range balls. Currently, plans are for the clinic to be limited to 8 individuals and priority will be given to the youth of non-club members. However, if there is enough response to hold a second session in the afternoon on Saturday, it will be provided.

After the introductory program, weekly free clinics consisting of more advanced instruction in the game will continue for the youth of CCC members. Additionally the CCC places emphasis on keeping the course friendly with a good pace of play - generally 18 holes in under three and a half hours. This is quite a benefit as these days five hour rounds are becoming commonplace. When memberships are sold out, they're gone!

Anyone interested in signing up should call the Country Clubb at 537-3412.
