Mr. Starling was a member of First United Methodist Church, Cheraw, where he was a member of the Men's Bible Class and the United Methodist Men. He had also served on the church Board of Trustees and the Eagle Scout Board. He has been active in Boy Scout Troop 655 where he served as Assistant Scoutmaster, having previously served as Scoutmaster. Mr. Starling had received several Boy Scout awards, including the Order of The Arrow; he was a Wood Badge instructor and also served on the Pee Dee Area of the Boy Scouts as a Unit Commissioner. Mr. Starling was a former Assistant Girl Scout Leader of troop 107 and was awarded a Pee Dee Regional Girl Scout Appreciation Pin for his service.
Surviving are his wife, Martha Williamson Starling, of the home; a son, Ronnie M. "Mike" Starling, Jr., of Cheraw; a daughter, Kimberly Rachel Starling of Florence; a sister, Debbie "Sister" Griggs of Cheraw; and three brothers, Gerald Starling, of Cheraw, Joseph Starling, of Hartsville, and Jay Starling, of Florence.
Funeral services were held Sept. 1, at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, Cheraw, with interment in Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 31, in the fellowship hall of the First United Methodist Church.
