Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Sept. 15, at New Zion Baptist Church, Cheraw. Burial was held in Montrose Cemetery.
Ethel was born June 22, 1931, a daughter of the late Isaac and Addie Scott. She received her education at Young School in the Cash Community and at an early age she was converted, baptized and joined New Zion Baptist Church where she served as a member.
She later moved to New York for many years and returned home in 1971. She was employed at Burlington Industries for a number of years. Ethel was a member of Macedonia Tent Lodge No. 14, past president and chaplain of New Zion Senior Choir for many years and past president of the New Zion Next Generation Choir until her health failed.
She was preceded in death by a son, Morris Scott; four brothers and five sisters.
Surviving is her husband of 52 years, John Henry Hook; two daughters, Velvetta (Johnny) Squire of Society Hill and Aiesha N. Scott of Cheraw; four sons, Otis (Sharon) Scott of Naples, Italy, Anthony C. Hooks, Christopher (Shirley) Hooks and Elton J. Hooks all of Cheraw; a step-daughter, Linda of Pennsylvania; four sisters, Barbara Harrington, Annette Legcock and Edith S. Batton all of Cheraw, Doris (James) Rayford of Milledgeville, Ga.; three brothers, Londell (Carolyn) Scott of Cheraw, Era Short of Farrell, PA and Wilson Scott of Youngstown, Ohio; a granddaughter, Aiesha Scott and other relatives and friends.
Reid's Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
