CHESTERFIELD - The Chesterfield County School Board extended the contract of Superintendent John Williams at its regular monthly meeting on Oct. 13.

Williams' contract was extended by one year, or through June 30, 2010. His salary for the 2007-08 school year is set at $125,000.

All seven board members commended Williams for a positive evaluation of his performance during the 2006-07 school year.

Chesterfield County School Board Chairman Jerry Holley said the board believes Williams is doing a good job for the school system and the communities it

serves.

"The District is fortunate that Dr. Williams, who grew up and was educated in Chesterfield County, is its educational leader," said Holley in a prepared statement. "His 'open door' policy is very much appreciated, not only by parents and staff but members of the community as well."

Dr. Williams and the board acknowledged the need for continued improvement in academic and technology performance at all levels for all students, which remains the district's primary focus.

The Superintendent and members of the Board also concurred on priority emphases in the areas of personnel, the budgeting process and the expectation of excellence in administrative leadership.

Holley said the board looks forward to working with Superintendent Williams on the identified areas of priority for this school year and congratulates him on a job well done in 2006-07.
