CHESTERFIELD---The Chesterfield Town Council unanimously voted to donate $500 to Team Chesterfield for the annual Carolina Sandblast Rally held in Chesterfield County on Feb. 8-9.

Charlie Gray addressed council members on the rally and the success it had last year.

"This event is a county-wide event," Gray said. "It brings people into the county and everyone seemed to like what we did last year. A lot of people come to the town and come to the county for this event. Last year turned out really well."

Along with donating the funds to the event, council will allow parking spaces in downtown Chesterfield to be blocked so that cars and bikes can be on display.

In other business:

n Gray also addressed water and sewer concerns to council as well. Laney St. had experienced pump and lift stations failures with its water and sewages systems. Gray told council that those problems had been fixed and the lift station had been completely vacuumed out to make sure it functions properly.

n Council also voted to make a request to the South Carolina Department of Transportation to remove the one-way states of Scotch Rd. during school hours. The request comes due to the relocations of Edwards Elementary.

N Council also had the first reading of Ordinance 2008-2, an ordinance to extend the historical district in Chesterfield. The district will be extended along Main St., East Main St., South Page St., East Blvd., and South Craig St.
