CHERAW - Dr. Ron Bartley, the new of president of Northeastern Technical College, will be introduced to the public tonight at a Greater Cheraw Chamber of Commerce reception in the college's auditorium.
The event will take place from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Parking is available in the college parking lot adjacent to the auditorium, with entry from TEC Road.
The reception will be sponsored jointly by Northeastern Technical College and Founders Federal Credit Union.
Bartley succeeds Dr. James C. Williamson. Williamson now serves as the Board Chairman of the Greater Cheraw Chamber of Commerce.
Bartley, who began work at the college on Monday, comes to Northeastern Technical College from West Virginia State Community and Technical College in Institute, W. Va., where he has served as interim president since 2006, having previously been vice president of academic affairs. He has also held several teaching and leadership positions at Southwest Virginia Community College, and has also been a math teacher and an assistant high school principal. He holds a Doctor of Education degree from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, a Master of Education degree from the University of Virginia, and a Bachelor of Science Degree from East Tennessee State University.
Bartley and his wife, Rita, have two children and one grandson. Their son teaches mathematics at Jefferson Community College in Louisville, Kentucky while their daughter is a nurse in Lebanon, Virginia. The couple relocated to the Cheraw area in late February.
"Northeastern has a talented faculty and staff that will work to increase opportunities for citizens of the college service region," said Bartley . "I am excited at the possibility of reaching out to more of our local citizens and to explore new programs for training the region's workforce. In my first few weeks at the college, I will be devoting time to meeting with faculty, staff, and students as well as establishing contacts within the NETC community."
