BENNETTSVILLE - Jerry Chavis, 59, died May 26, 2008.

Funeral services were held 4:00 PM Thursday, May 29, at Ebenezer United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Grant's Cemetery behind the church.

He was a son of the late Emerson Ford Chavis and Eva Mae Chavis. He was a graduate ('68) of Wallace High School where he was active in basketball and baseball. He attended Richmond community college in 1969. He was a US Navy Veteran.

Jerry was the owner and operator of Chavis Painting Contractors. He was an avid fisherman. He had a passion for NASCAR and short track Saturday night racing. He loved all sports. He loved gardening and always shared his vegetables with his family and friends. He was a loving brother Uncle and friend.

Surviving is a brother, Don Wayne Chavis; sisters, Miriam C. Griggs, Brenda C. Moody, Nina C. Leviner all of Bennettsville, and Ruby C. Hatcher of Cheraw and other relatives and friends.

Kiser Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
