CHESTERFIELD - Rev. Lonnie Lee Murvin, Sr., 55, died July 18, 2008.

Funeral services were at 1 p.m. July 22 at Salem Baptist Church, Chesterfield. Burial was held in Chesterfield Community Cemetery.

Lonnie was born to Lonnie B. and the late Lottie M. Murvin July 28, 1952. He joined Salem Baptist Church at an early age where he became the assistant pastor. He also pastored St. James Baptist Church in Cheraw and was the assistant pastor of Timmonsville Baptist Church in Mt. Croghan. He was the present pastor of Philadelphia Baptist Church in Marshville, N.C.

In 1970, he graduated from Chesterfield High School and attended Chesterfield Marlboro Technical College in Cheraw. He enjoyed reading the Bible and enjoyed sports, but had a passion for football. Rev. Murvin had various jobs and was currently employed with the Chesterfield County Detention Center as a Sergeant. On Nov. 17, 1973 he married Geraldine B. Burch.

Surviving is his wife of 34 years, Geraldine B. Murvin; a daughter, Miranda L. Murvin of Chesterfield; three sons, Lonnie L. Murvin, Jr. (Lakia) of Fredrickburgs, Va., Ronald E. Murvin (Marissa) of El Paso, TX and Jonathan F. Murvin of the home; 12 grandchildren, Jairus, Tierra, Alaysia, Devin, Lonnie III, Elijah, Jala, Christian, Teanna, Taylor, Tyler and Aniyah; six aunts, Mary R. Coit, Martha R. Sellrs, Sara M. Lee, Bazil Rivers, Sadie Murvin and Vera Murvin; and other relatives and friends.

Flemming Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
