CHERAW – The 2008 South Carolina 2008 Jazz Festival is scheduled to take place Oct. 17-18 in downtown Cheraw.
From great food, music, face painting and art, along with the brand new first time “second line parade,” the event is sure to be another huge success.
“Every slot has been filled for this year’s Jazz Festival,” said Cheraw Arts Director Lindsey Bennett.
The S.C. Jazz Festival Committee plans to introduce two new colors for S.C. Jazz Festival T-shirts this year — brown and red. Both will depict Dizzy Gillespie on the front.
A “Gospel Celebration” will be held this year on Oct. 18 from 3 -4:30 p.m. at Wesley United Methodist Church on Greene Street.
A Bebop Parade will take place at 4 p.m. on Friday. It will begin at Dizzy Gillespie Park on Huger Street and end at Centennial Park in Downtown Cheraw.

On Friday evening, a featured concert at the Theatre on the Green will begin at 7 p.m. and includes several entertainers. The concert will be hosted by Cheraw native Rosalyn Cole, host of the Original Sunday Brunch with Roz on KISS 103.1.
A single night ticket is $15. The two-night ticket is $25
On Saturday, downtown Cheraw will; a perfect place to celebrate a day alive with jazz and the arts. An exhibit by the artisians of the South Carolina Cotton Trail will feature work by a juried group of artists and craftspeople.
“With many other fun and exciting events, there will also be a reception for all of this year’s sponsors that will be held at the Wine Factory,” said Bennett.
“I think that the committee has done a great job again this year in planning for the Jazz Festival, and they are all very much appreciated,” said Cheraw Parks and Recreation Director Phil Powell.
Bennett also mentioned that a lot of marketing and getting the word out to others is in the works.
“We hope to get out press releases to at least 50 newspapers in S.C.,” she said. “Time Warner Cable has committed to doing a -second commercial and broad channel broadcasting,” said Bennett. “They will be producing and airing the commercial within the Grand Strand.”
