CHERAW––-The Region 8-AA title will be decided Friday night at Mieklejohn Stadium when the red-hot Cheraw Braves face the Dillon Wildcats. A 49-14 beat down of Marion last Friday night gave the Braves their fifth consecutive win and moves their record to 6-3 overall, 4-0 in region action.

In sloppy conditions, the Braves’ offense was still firing on all cylinders. The six offensive touchdowns scored by the Braves were each over 40 yards.

Ben Hutson added a touchdown on defense with a fumbledrecovery returned for a score. Although the conditions were messy, the Braves only had one turnover during the game.

Montrell Evans carried the ball seven times for a total of 82 yards and a score. Travis Small carried the ball eight times for 66 yards and a score on the ground. Small also caught a 48-yard touchdown pass from Gray Stafford.

In two consecutive years, the Braves have defeated Dillon and sent them home in the playoffs. This year’s match-up will be for playoff positioning and decide who will have a number-one seed.

Dillon comes into the game averaging 32.5 points per game in the region, while only allowing opponents an average of 5 points per game in region play. The Braves have dominated region opponents, scoring 51.3 points per game and allowing region teams 8.8 points per game.

Dillon and Cheraw were projected as the top two teams in the region at the beginning of the season. If their match up plays out like their previous contests, the game should provide excitement for all in attendance.

The game is scheduled for a 7:30 kickoff.
