Brenda Hubbard Furr

FLORENCE — Brenda Hubbard Furr, 66, died Jan. 1, 2012, at home.

Funeral services were held Jan. 4 at Cheraw First Methodist Church with burial following in the McCall Cemetery, Bennettsville.

Ms. Furr was born Aug. 9, 1945, the daughter of June Cottingham and the late 2nd Lt. John Calhoun Hubbard Jr. Ms. Furr earned her undergraduate degree from Converse College and her master’s degree from Francis Marion University. After graduating from Converse, she owned and operated Blenheim Bottling Works which she had inherited from her father. Brenda, a breast cancer survivor, was a devoted science teacher at Sneed Middle School in Florence. She also taught at All Saints Episcopal Day School prior to joining the staff at Sneed. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents and also her stepfather, George Truett Hucks, who she called her “Big Sugar.”

Brenda is survived by her two sons, Jeffrey (Sarra) Furr of Cheraw and Gregory Furr of Japan; a much loved grandson, George Coker Furr of Cheraw who was the “light of her life”; her mother, June Hucks of Florence; two sisters, Cathy (Steve) Kitterman of Florence and Kimberly Hucks of Greenville; and a niece, Lindsey Kitterman and nephew, Stephen (Allison) Kitterman of Greenville.
