“All voting polls in Chesterfield County will be open Saturday, just as any normal election,” said Ernestine Schray, clerk for the voter’s registration office of Chesterfield County.

“If you’re a registered voter in South Carolina, you are eligible to vote in this Republican Presidential Preference Primary,” said Schray. This primary will simply help determine who the Republican Party will choose for their candidate, said Schray. A state primary election will be held later this year in June. The general election is in November.

“This is an open election,” said Schray, meaning anyone registered to vote, regardless of their political party, has the option of participating in Saturday’s primary.

Voting polls open at 7 a.m. and will close at 7 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21.

The S.C. Democratic Party will not hold a publicly-conducted presidential primary in 2012. For more information on the party’s 2012 presidential nominating process, visit the party’s precinct reorganization page at www.scdp.org.
