Q. Do you think 9 a.m. on a Wednesday morning is the most appropriate time for Chesterfield County Council to meet?

“It’s always good to meet when the most people can attend. I don’t think that’s the best time, no.”

Bobby Streater

Cheraw, S.C.

“That’s not a time when I could be there.”

Kim Robertson

Cheraw, S.C.

“What? That’s unreasonable. Most councils meet in the late afternoons because of the availability of time. Every council meeting I ever attended was in the late afternoon.”

Tim McSweeney

“Late afternoons or early evenings would be much better. I think there would be more people to attend then.”

Dwayne Kelly

“I would think to meet at 6 or 7 p.m. would be a more convenient time for working people to attend, and have an opportunity to voice their issues.”

I agree, evenings would be much better. To attend the last County Council meeting, I had to take a half day off work. I've also attended the Pageland town meeting which was held in the evening at 7pm....that was a great time to meet. Hopefully the Council of Chesterfield county will see this and make some much needed changes.

The only reason the county council would have their meetings at that time is to pass things that the citizens wouldn't agree with. Every citizen should call their county council member and demand that the meetings are held in the evening so that they can attend if they can or want to. I asked the county council about their meeting time and was told the citizens never attended so they started doing it at 9:00 a.m. Guess what our taxes are paying them - they should work the hours that are conducive to our needs - not theirs.
