Horses, horses, and more horses! Coming Saturday, May 5, to the South Carolina Equine Park in Camden, the SC Horsemen’s Council annual expo will feature world-class clinicians, a parade of breeds, exciting demonstrations, and a day of entertainment and information.
Renowned horseman Richard Shrake, who created Resistance Free Training & Riding methods, will give two demonstrations: “Is your riding ruining your horse?” and “Obstacles give your horse a job.” Shrake is one of the most popular clinicians in the country. His seminars focus on communication between horse and rider.
As an added bonus, Shrake will be conducting a horse and rider clinic in Aiken after the expo. Participants can choose to attend one or both days with their horses, and auditors are welcome. Demonstrations during the expo include sidesaddle riding, Large Animal Rescue by Dr. Rebecca Gimenez, and Dressage for Dummies. Equine veterinarians will address health topics, and a master farrier will answer questions from horse owners. Learn the truth about the mysterious subject of saddle fit.
Trainer Brock Griffith will work with a Thoroughbred off the track-to give him new skills as a pleasure mount. International competitor Lellie Ward of Aiken will present her method of instruction called Body Identification, which targets “better riding through knowledge, not luck.”
Since the Kentucky Derby is the day as the expo, there will be a big screen TV set up for pre-race coverage. However, the expo should conclude before the derby actually begins.
A silent auction and a tag sale will be held during the morning hours. Dozens of vendors, sponsors, booths, events for kids, and the council’s annual meeting will round out the day. Admission is $10. The gates open at 9 a.m.
