Levern Rivers, 85, of Cheraw, died in Columbia on July 13, 2012, as the result of injuries received in an accident on April 26, 2012.

The family received friends at the funeral home on Sunday, July 15, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, July 16, at the First United Methodist Church in Cheraw.

Born in Chesterfield on Aug. 27, 1926, Mr. Rivers was the son of the late Ross and Annie Hartsell Rivers. He was the owner of Rivers Used Appliances in Cheraw where he enjoyed talking to customers and friends. Prior to opening Rivers Used Appliances in 1981, he worked in the grocery business as owner of Rivers Thriftway on Second Street in Cheraw. He was a veteran of the Armed Forces having served proudly in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a Shriner and a Mason.

Mr. Rivers was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Cheraw where he enjoyed attending Sunday services. Appreciation is extended to Dr. Paul Wood, pastor, and his wife, Kay, for their support to Mr. Rivers and his family during this difficult time. Appreciation is also extended to Mrs. Frances Leppard of Cheraw and her family who are, and always will be a part of our family.

Mr. Rivers was an active, vibrant man who lived life to the fullest, greeted everyone with a smile, and treated everyone he met with kindness. He enjoyed weekend trips to the beach and was well-known for his love of dancing. He enjoyed talking with friends and neighbors and was always quick to offer help to others. He especially enjoyed visits with family.

Mr. Rivers is predeceased by his wife, Doris Walters Rivers, who was the love of his life; his older brother and best friend, Ottos Perry Rivers, of Vista, Calif.; and brothers Preston Rivers and Wayne Rivers of Chesterfield.

Mr. Rivers is survived by his devoted son, Royce L. Rivers Jr. and his wife, Susan, of Banner Elk, N.C., and by his loving grandson Evan Rivers, and his wife, Mandy, of Rancho Palos, Verdes, Calif. He was a wonderful and much loved father and grandfather.

Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Cheraw.
