The 2012 9U USSSA Global World Baseball Series was held in Myrtle Beach, S.C., July 12-15. The tournament included a Home Run Derby. Jonathan Gordon (“The Hammer”) walked away from the field of participants as the 2012 home run derby champion. Gordon blasted 10 home runs and won a bat of his choice (valued at $300).
A major league baseball scout was on site throughout the tournament and included Gordon on his list of future major league baseball prospects.
Fellow-teammate, Landon Mills, was the runner-up home run derby winner. Mills propelled six shots over the fence to tie for second place. Mills won the head-to-head swing off to capture the runner-up home plate plaque.
Hunter Polson and Owen Taylor also had good performances in the derby.
