The body of Cheraw resident Jeffery Doyle Allen, 48, was found on the bank of the spillway at Cheraw State Park early Tuesday morning. According to the incident report from the Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office, an “unidentified park guest,” who was “out for his morning walk,” discovered the body at the base of the spillway shortly after 7 a.m.

The report, filed by Staff Sgt. Jimmy Coombes, said that he responded to the scene and found the body of a “white male dressed in blue jeans, long sleeve shirt and tennis shoes, laying face down approximately three feet from the water.”

It appears as though the victim “fell down the hill and struck his head on the large rocks at the bottom,” said Coombes.

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) has been called to assist the Sheriff’s Office with the investigation.

Chesterfield County Sheriff Sam Parker said Wednesday morning that he is “waiting for autopsy results, and we’ll go from there” as to how to proceed with the investigation.

As of press time, those results had not been released.
