Governor Nikki Haley and The Original Six Foundation recently announced Marlboro County Day, scheduled to take place on Saturday, Aug. 18, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The activities will take place at Marlboro County High School, located at 951 Fayetteville Ave. Ext. in Bennettsville. This event will be the third community day The Original Six Foundation has organized as a part of a major statewide initiative that will help provide the tools and resources needed for challenged South Carolina communities to grow economically.
“Marlboro County has so much potential, and raising awareness with events such as Marlboro County Day will encourage family projects, school and church projects and civic group projects from all areas of the state that will lift up our neighbors in Marlboro County and beyond,” said Gov. Haley. “I am encouraged by the level of interest we have had from individuals, businesses, organizations, churches and groups who want to show Marlboro County that neighbors helping neighbors will make South Carolina an even better place to live.”
In partnership with hundreds of community volunteers, the foundation will provide a variety of components and resources that were determined in collaboration with local leaders in Marlboro County.
Activities include a Health Fair, which will provide plenty of family fun while highlighting the importance of personal health maintenance. In partnership with the South Carolina Primary Health Care Association, the Health Fair will offer free medical, dental, eye, chiropractic and diabetic screenings as well as information about health programs and Medicaid eligibility.
The first 200 school-age children (5 years of age and older) to complete a minimum of four health screenings are eligible for a backpack of their choice. In addition, the S.C. Tennis Association will be offering an introductory clinic for school children featuring games, prizes, and a parents Q&A on general tennis questions and on how to start a local program.
Additional activities will include a job fair that will provide attendees the opportunity to work on their resume and link them with employers who will be on-site. Information about continuing education programs and literacy programs such as Cocky’s Reading Express will also be available.
Transportation to and from the event will be available. For more information, visit theoriginalsixfoundation.org.
