Dessie M. Allen, 79, died Saturday, Aug. 11, 2012.

A funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 14, at Fairview Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home.

Mrs. Allen was born June 6, 1933, in Jefferson, a daughter of the late James William and Dessie Mae Price Melton. She was a member of Twin Pines Freewill Baptist Church and a homemaker. Dessie was preceded in death by her husband of 32 years, Edward J. Allen; a son, Johnny E. Allen; three brothers, Preston, Robert, and Randolph Melton; a half brother, Charles Ray Melton; four sisters, Mattie Louise Melton, Flora Jane Johnson, Mable Henry, Nancy Rollins; and one half sister, Shirley Melton.

Survivors include a son, William “Billy” (Tammy) Allen of Mt. Croghan; a sister, Mary (Jackie) Rowe of Concord, N.C.; four grandchildren, Marsha (Shane Kearns) Nicholson of Mt. Croghan, Dewayne (Susan) Allen of Chesterfield, Traci Allen of Mt. Croghan and Trenton Allen of Mt. Croghan; four great grandchildren, Kelsey Allen, Cale Nicholson, Kaitlyn Nicholson and Kade Kearns; a half brother, Bruce Melton of Monroe, N.C.; and a sister-in-law, Madge Mills of Pageland.
