Local law enforcement officers say 18 year old Nick Marcus Sheilds Jr., of 419 Old Cash Road in Cheraw, has been arrested and charged for breaking into numerous vehicles in and around town.
According to Brian Campbell, a detective for the Cheraw Police Department, Sheilds was stopped by PFC Jerry Lundy early Friday morning, Aug. 17. “Sheilds was riding his bike along Kershaw Street in the early morning,” said Campbell, when Lundy stopped and questioned him. “He was in possession of several stolen items at the time of his arrest.”
Campbell said Shields has also been charged for fraudulent financial card transactions, as well as simple possession of marijuana.
“From what I understand,” said Chesterfield County Sheriff Sam Parker, “the suspect has confessed to about 15 to 20 car break-ins, most of them in the Reid Park neighborhood and along West Market.”
Parker and Campbell both said detectives had been examining bicycle tracks found at most of the crime scenes. “In most every case there were bike tracks leading to and from the scene,” said Parker.
Parker also said that every vehicle that suffered a loss was unlocked. “Please, please,” he said, “we’re beggin’ folks to lock their cars.”
