Gladys Christine Johnson, 84, died on Monday, Sept. 10, 2012, at Transitional Health Services of Kannapolis after a period of declining health followed by a recent car accident.
She was born Dec. 14, 1927, in Chesterfield County, the daughter of the late Percy Lucas Johnson and Lessie Mae Deese Johnson. She was a 1947 graduate of Ruby High School, Ruby.
Johnson was a beautician at Smith’s Beauty Shop in Kannapolis for a number of years. Later, she worked in the sewing room of the former Cannon Mills Company, Plant #1 until her retirement. She was an active member of West Point Baptist Church, Kannapolis, N.C. for over 54 years where she had taught Sunday School, served on various committees of the church, sang in the choir, member of the Nellie Gales Circle, and the Forever Young Club. Gladys spent much of her time reading the Bible. She participated in the Lunch Plus Program in Kannapolis and was a regular at Hardees on Dale Earnhardt Blvd. Her life was God, her church, and her family.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by the following brothers and sisters, Lee Johnson & wife, Grace, Winston Johnson & wife, Aileen, Ethel Moore & husband, Parnell, and Nathan Johnson & wife, Mary; and a nephew, Byron Eugene Moore.
Survivors include many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly which included Terry Moore Fisher whom Gladys considered as a daughter.
