Melvin Eugene Polson, Jr., age 62, died Saturday, August 18, 2012.
A funeral service was held on Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2012 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home Chapel. Interment followed in the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, Cheraw.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, Aug. 21, at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home.
Polson was born December 12, 1949, in Cheraw, a son of Doris Williams Polson Hudson, and the late Melvin Eugene Polson. He was a 1968 graduate of Cheraw High School, and also received a Welding and Mechanic degree from Chesterfield Marlboro Tech. Eugene was a retired mechanic with INA USA. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Vietnam War. Polson was a member of the American Legion and the WOW Lodge 516. Eugene was an avid outdoors-man, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, motorcycle riding, and spending time at the beach. He also enjoyed classic cars, race car driving, building racing engines, and NASCAR racing. Eugene loved his Family and Friends and they were all special to him. In addition to his father, Eugene was also preceded in death by his brother, Ronald Lee Polson.
He is survived by his wife, Agnes Odom Polson of the home, one son, Melvin Eugene “Gene” Polson III of Cheraw, one daughter, Shannon Marie Polson of Chesterfield, mother and stepfather, Doris Williams Hudson and David Bryant Hudson of Cheraw, one sister, Lexie Polson (Jerry) Lewis of Chesterfield, special friends, Bill and Landon Perry of Chesterfield.
