Sylvester Eugene “Gene” Hancock, 72, died Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2012.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m., Friday, Oct. 19, at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home Chapel, Chesterfield.

Interment will follow in the Cross Roads Baptist Church Cemetery, Ruby.

Visitation is from 2 to 3 p.m., Friday, Oct. 19, prior to the service at the funeral home.

Hancock was born Jan. 12, 1940, in Florence, a son of the late Henry Franklin and Nellie Catherine Gulledge Hancock. He was a high school graduate and received an Associate Degree in accounting. Hancock was a retired Tech Sergeant with the U.S. Air Force with over 20 years of service, having served during the Vietnam War. He was also a retired computer builder with National Cash Register Company. Hancock was a member of Springdell Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by seven brothers and six sisters.

Survivors include a wife, Sylvia Sharp Hancock of Gaston, one son, Sylvester E. “Buddy” Hancock Jr. of Lexington, one daughter, Rachel Hancock, one grandchild, two sisters, Ethel H. Barrett and Rachel H. Blackmon of Lancaster, also several nieces and nephews.

Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home of Chesterfield, is serving the family.
