Three Chesterfield County females landed in jail last week for talking — talking about blowing up a school.
“We simply cannot dismiss any threat without a thorough investigation,” said Chesterfield County Sheriff Sam Parker.
On Monday of last week, a bomb threat prevented the Chesterfield County School District from hosting the county’s spelling bee. That threat led to the arrest of a 13-year-old student of Chesterfield-Ruby Middle School and the 20-year-old woman with whom she was communicating electronically.
The very next day, another juvenile female, 17, was arrested for her comments about blowing up Chesterfield High School, lawmen said.
According to Chesterfield County Investigating Officer Wayne Jordan, the high school student said, “she was tired of being picked on and bullied and should just blow the school up.”
In both incidents the schools were searched for any signs of explosives but none were found.
The students will face disciplinary consequences at each school, said Chesterfield County Superintendent Harrison Goodwin, as well as in the justice system.
These kinds of threats are never taken lightly, said Parker. “People need to realize this is no laughing matter. They will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law,” the sheriff said.
