During the month of January, the CCLS hosted a “Tea and Talk” at the Matheson library. It was a very elegant affair, with china teapots and hot tea and silver trays filled with scones, smoked salmon, cakes, cookies and cream puffs. We thank Marilyn Burns of Ruby, S.C., and Sharon Dutton, of Chesterfield, for their assistance in making this such an authentic experience. The entire event from the making of the Devonshire Cream to the trivia, was a big success. The next “Tea and Talk” will be in Chesterfield on Feb. 21st when they will discuss the popular Downton Abbey TV series.

With the cold weather ahead, this is perfect timing for Pageland to offer a Knitting Class beginning on Feb. 7. They are also pulling out the teapots in preparation for the Pageland “Tea and Talk: Downton Abbey Style” which will be held on February 19th just after the final program of Season 3.

McBee and Jefferson are continuing their fashion fare with the next project, a bird’s nest ring. This could be a wonderful “mother’s ring.” The new TV with surround sound is finally installed and you might start watching for some “movie” events in the spring.

“The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel” will be the feature film in Chesterfield on Feb. 11th at 2:00. This is truly a great movie and a great opportunity, if you haven’t seen it. The staff at the main library are also pulling out the teapots to host the Downton Abbey fans in Chesterfield for “Tea and Talk; Downton Abbey Style” on February 21st at 11:00. They will end the month with a little arm candy at the Memory Wire Bracelet class on the 25th. Be sure to call the library to reserve your place for any or all of these fun events.

“The Vow” will be featured at Matheson Movie Day on February 19th. This is a real tear jerker and a wonderful love story, so bring your tissue! In keeping with the fashion statements around the county, they will offer a tee shirt scarf class on February 28th at 2:00. You’ll want to plan ahead and coordinate your old tee shirts with your newest outfit – we’ll redesign that tee shirt! If keeping fit has been on your agenda, check out the guest speaker for February, as we continue the “healthy, smart” series. Watch the website for more information. If you didn’t make the first session, you really missed some great recipes! To those of you that are artsy and crafty, come join the group on February 11 at 6:00. We have knitters, beaders, painters, and welcome any art/crafts to our group for inspiration and support. Of course, help is always needed with the puzzles so be sure you have time to add a few pieces to the puzzle when you stop by Matheson.

During the month of February, Matheson Library will be featuring an artistic tribute to Black History Month with a display by local artist Archie Preston. Mrs. Amy Brown will be a guest storyteller for the Chesterfield and Pageland afterschool programs and will share readings about the lives and achievements of fellow African American heroes. There will be more about her program on the website so please continue to check in with us. All branches have created displays with books and other items of interest, many coming from volunteers in the community. Be sure to stop by to see these displays of American history.

Free tax help is being offered in the Matheson Library on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:00 -1:00. You do need to make an appointment, so please call before you drive down.

Our computer classes continue through the month of February and we’re adding two new stops, one in McBee and one in Jefferson. The design of the class has become more of a “one on-one” help service with devices such as laptops, tablets, e-readers, mp3 players and of course searching and using the Internet. If you have any special requests, please contact me at 623-6720.
