McBee picks up wins

McBEE—The Lady Panthers picked up key region victories last week. On Mar. 27, McBee defeated Lewisville 14-1. Callie Wayne picked up the win on the mound for the Lady Panthers.

North Central was McBee’s opponent and the Lady Panthers would prevail 25-2 on Mar. 31. Wayne was the winning pitcher again. McBee ended the week with a 20-0 win over Great Falls.

Lady Braves on a roll

CHERAW --- Cheraw’s softball team catapulted themselves to the top of the region standings at the midway point of the region schedule. The Lady Braves used four region wins last week to separate themselves from region foes.

On Mar. 30, the Lady Braves defeated Marion 5-3. Nancy Ann Crawley was the winning pitcher for Cheraw.

The following day, the Lady Braves handled Dillon with an 8-1 victory.

On April 3, Cheraw played a double header against Mullins. In the first game, the Lady Braves won 5-0. Cheraw continued to dominate, winning the second contest 20-0.

Central earns region victories

PAGELAND --- The Central Lady Eagles defeated Andrew Jackson and Columbia High School during games last week.

On Mar. 30, the Lady Eagles defeated Andrew Jackson 1-0 in eight innings. Katie Carnes was the winning pitcher for the Lady Eagles.

On Mar. 31, Central routed Columbia 17-0. Carnes picked up another win on the mound for the Lady Eagles.

Chesterfield continues to make a statement

CHESTEFIELD – The Chesterfield softball team earned two impressive wins last week against Region 3-A competition.

On Mar. 30, the Lady Rams defeated Buford 8-1. The win gave the Lady Rams a much needed region win to keep pace with McBee in region play.

Chesterfield earned a 7-0 win against North Central on April 3.

Kerri Jackson was the winning pitcher in both contests.

Baseball

Eagles defeat Andrew Jackson

PAGELAND—The Central Eagles were able to fit one game in last week due to heavy rains.

The Eagles defeated Andrew Jackson 5-1 on Mar. 30 to earn another region victory in Region 4-AA. Eric Newman picked up the win on the bump for the Eagles.

Panthers earn first region win

McBEE— The always tough McBee Panthers baseball team picked up their first region win of the season last week.

The Panthers defeated North Central 7-1 on Mar. 31 to pick earn their first win in Region 3-A this season. J.C. Steen was the winning pitcher for McBee.

Braves hope to rebound from losses

CHERAW --- The Braves suffered region losses during last week’s contest, but hope to bounce back to make a push for the region championship.

Cheraw suffered a loss at the hands of Marion; losing the game 6-3. The following day, the Braves fell to Dillon 11-1 to drop their second region loss of the season.

Cheraw ended their week with a 9-2 win against Mullins to end their two-game losing streak and stop the bleeding in region play.

Golf

Central earns fourth, Braves sixth in annual Brave Invitational

CHERAW --- A tough field at the annual Brave Invitational provided stiff competition for all the teams involved during the 18-hole tournament. Blythewood, the defending Brave Invitational champions, defended their title successfully and won with a low score of 304.

For the Chesterfield County teams, Central finished in fourth place with a score of 327. Ben Miller led the Eagles with a score of 77.

Host team Cheraw, earned a sixth place finish with a score of 345. The Braves were led by Alex Lanter’s 83 and Scott Smith’s 85. Jarvis Hooks shot an 87, while Jake Crouse finished with 92.
