CHESTERFIELD — Chesterfield County law enforcement officials are searching for answers after the body of 26-year-old man was found Saturday.

The Sheriff’s Department is seeking information in the murder of Eric Eugene Duncan of Chesterfield.

According to a Sheriff’s Department incident report, deputies were dispatched to W. Jack Rivers Road at approximately 8 a.m. when a woman called to report a body lying in the road.

“She was on her way to work and she noticed something lying in the road,” said Sheriff Sam Parker. “When she got closer, she realized it was a body and called 911.”

Parker says that the incident was initially believed to be a hit and run.

“He was hit by a car, but we believe that was secondary,” Parker said. “If anyone has any knowledge of being on that road that night and possibly bumped something or felt a bump, please let us know.”

Deputies arrived on the scene and discovered that it was more than a simple case of hit-and-run. The deputies called in Parker and investigators to take get a more detailed inspection of the scene.

Before Parker and the investigators arrived, the S.C. Highway Patrol received a call about an abandoned car on Centerpoint Road, approximately 1.5 miles away from the scene. The car was discovered at the intersection of Angelus and Centerpoint Road.

“A deputy was sent to that area and the vehicle was identified as belonging to the victim,” Parker said. “There were also some bloodstains in the car. It was left with the door open.”

Deputies cleared the area of bystanders and put crime scene tape around the area and waited for Parker and the investigators to arrive.

The S.C. Highway Patrol’s Multi-disciplinary Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) and a forensics team from the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division were called to the scene as well.

Upon further examination of the body on the scene, emergency medical personnel noticed a gunshot wound in the back of Duncan’s head.

As of Wednesday afternoon, there have been no arrests made in the case and a motive has not been determined.

Sheriff Parker says there are, however, several suspects and even more leads. Parker hopes that anyone who has information about the incident or who may have seen the car the night before will contact the Sheriff’s Department with any information they can share.

“We’re trying to narrow the timeline and get as much information as we can,” Parker said. “Please call us if you have any information or anything to help us out.”

The Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Department is asking anyone who may have information to contact their office at (843) 623-2101.
