CHERAW ––– The Cheraw golf team went into the season as a young group. Each match was a chance to gain experience and build for the future. With a second place finish in the region and earning a spot in the state championship, the Braves hoped to take their finish in the state tournament and build upon it for next season.

The team finished the state tournament ninth, ended the tournament with a team score of 698.

Scott Smith finished the tournament with a total score of 167. John Weeks and Alex Lanter both finished with a score of 170. Jake Crouse finished with 198 and Nathan Jewart shot 215.

“We were hoping to finish somewhere in the middle,” said Cheraw head coach Harry Newsome. “We didn’t play as well as we could have. Considering how young this team is, that’s a respectable finish.”

Newsome said this season was a chance to build for next year and years to come.

“We played pretty well this season,” Newsome said. “We have a lot of young kids returning next year.”
