Cheraw's November Municipal Election filing now closed

CHERAW - Filing for the November Cheraw Municipal Election, which began on Monday, is now officially closed as of noon last Friday, according to Cheraw Clerk-Treasurer Tina Ellis.

Cheraw Town Council members Robert L. Benton (District 2), Jacqueline Ellerbe-Shannon, (District 4), and Mickey Workman, (District 6), have all filed for re-election in the Nov. 3 non-partisan election and runoff election. However, Benton will be challenged by Billy Wallace, Ellerbe-Shannon will face opposition from J.J. Wallace, and Mickey Workman will face competition from Reid McBride. All will be vying for his or her seat in the designated districts. According to the Town of Cheraw, notice is hereby given that a non-partisan election will be held between the hours of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2009 for the purpose of electing town council members from Council Districts two, four, and six as districts are depicted on the Single Member District Map filed in the Cheraw Town Hall. This year voting will take place at the following county voting precincts:

*Precinct No.1: Cheraw Community Center - 200 Powe Street;

*Precinct No. 2: Cheraw Family Worship Center - 3050 Hwy. 9 West;

*Precinct No.3: First Baptist Church - 121 Greene Street;

*Precinct No.4: Northeastern Technical College - 1201 Chesterfield Hwy.

Persons desiring to vote in the upcoming election must be registered to vote no later than Oct. 3, 2009. To register one may contact the County Board of Voter Registration at 843 -623-2265. At 2 p.m. on said Election Day, the poll managers will begin examining the absentee ballot return envelopes at each of the four respective polling places. On Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009 at 10 a.m., the Municipal Election Commission will hold a hearing to determine the validity of any challenged ballots and will certify the results of the election. In the event of a run-off election, said election will be held on Nov. 17, 2009 at the same locations and during the same hours.
