Fall is here and with the cooler weather comes the official beginning of our Chesterfield County Relay for Life Event for 2010. There will be a Committee Rally on Thursday, Oct. 8, beginning at 6 p.m. at Hopewell Baptist Church in Chesterfield, South Carolina. This is an opportunity for those who have served on committee in the past as well as anyone who would like to serve, or just find out more about our 2010 event to come together. The Friends of Matheson Library will have a book sale Oct. 16, 1-6 p.m. and Oct. 17, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the library, located at 227 Huger Street. Anyone with books to donate may drop them off at the library or call 843-537-2068 for pick-up. All money raised will go towards the local library.

Teams needed for Sidewalk Chalk Competition during S.C. Jazz Festival
The Cheraw Arts Commission is looking for teams to participate in a Sidewalk Chalk Competition on Saturday, Oct. 17. Returning to this year's festival will be "Madonnari-Southern Style." Teams of at least four people will compete by creating "masterpieces" on the sidewalk located at the Theatre on the Green on Market Street.
This sidewalk chalk competition is based on the Italian art form called "Madonnari" or Italian Street Painting. Prizes will be awarded to the winning teams. Teams can consist of families, friends, organizations, schools, churches, and/or businesses.

The AAMA will sponsor a youth talent show to be held at 5:30 p.m. at the Cheraw Community Center. The entry forms will be at Praise and Faith Gospel shop, located in the Windsor Park Shopping Center on Hwy. 9 and at Unique Florist Shop, which is located on Kershaw Street, both in Cheraw. Forms must be turned in by Oct. 10 and tickets will go on sale Oct. 14. You may purchase tickets from Praise and Faith, Unique Florist Shop or from an AAMA member. For Boys and Girls - ages 3 and up
The Cheraw Recreation and Leisure Services Department will be offering creative dance classes “The Joy of Dance” by Carolyn Midgley. Dance Masters of America and former owner of “The Dancing Dolls & Dukes” studio certify her. Classes will be held on Thursdays and will start Oct. 1 through Nov. 19 (8 weeks) for ages 3 years old – 7 years old boys and girls. The first class time is set for 1:30 p.m. and the fee for the 8 weeks is $48 for city residents and $64 for out-of-city residents.
