In recognition of October as Fire Safety Month, Cheraw Intermediate School recently held a number of activities and experiences for the students to learn about fire safety. The third grade students were treated to a fire safety program by the Cheraw Fire Department, which included firemen, Pluggy, Sparky, and the fire truck. The sirens and water cannon excited the children, but not as much as the afternoon fire drill. The Fire Department brought their theater smoke machines and "smoked up" the halls; therefore, the students had to exit the building through the windows. This was "fun" for the children but more importantly, a valuable preparation and practice in case of a real fire.
