Paws and Claws is no longer allowed to benefit from the aluminum can donations made at the Chesterfield County Convenience Center drop-off facilities since Nov 2009.

A new waste management contract agreed to in 2009 requires that all recyclable materials be included. If anyone wishes his or her aluminum can donation to benefit the animals held at the Chesterfield County Animal Shelter, the aluminum cans will need to be brought to the animal shelter facility at 467 Goodale Rd, Chesterfield and dropped off. We are in work with the county maintenance office to provide the shelter a recycle trailer/bin to hold the aluminum cans. We want to thank the county for allowing us to utilize the funds generated by the sale of the aluminum cans to help the animals for the last couple of years and to the residents for their support with the donations of the aluminum cans. This decision to change the waste management contract will impact us immensely. The aluminum cans helped to fund many things for the animal’s welfare (vetting, wormers, vaccines, antibiotics, replacement milk powder, food, etc) and for some maintenance items (garden hoses, hose nozzles, hose repair/connectors, kennel clips, litter boxes, dog houses, water buckets, food bowls, etc). This was the only source of funding from the county that did not impact the county budget.

We greatly appreciate all that has been done to make the shelter a better environment for the animals held there, and hope to continue improvement in the conditions, environment and handling of these animals. It is up to every responsible pet owner to spay their female dogs/cats, and neuter their male dogs/cats. Only by controlling the puppy and kitten litters, will we reduce the kill numbers at this facility.
