Chesterfield General Hospital will offer free childbirth education classes specifically designed to help women learn about what to expect while pregnant. Topics include what partners can do to help in the birthing process, what labor is like and if special breathing really helps. Women will learn how to tell if they are in labor and to practice pain relief that really works. Learn what to expect after your baby is born, information on breast and bottle-feeding and more. A weekly series will be held Mondays in March from 6 to 8 p.m. Classes meet in the Women’s Health Center at Chesterfield General Hospital.

High Falls Fire and Rescue annual Chicken Stew and Classic Car Cruise In, located 12 miles north of Carthage on Hwy 22, will be held at High Falls Elementary. Chicken stew times will be from drive thru, 3 p.m.-until and cafeteria, 4 p.m.-until. Cost is $7 per plate. Kids 6 and under eat free (Cafeteria Only). The Cheraw Arts Commission presents ArtsPower National Touring Theatre in the performance of Are You My Mother? Cheraw Intermediate School is hosting the performance, which begins at 11 a.m. The colorful musical adventure is based on P.D. Eastman’s whimsical and well-loved book and will delight audiences of all ages.
ArtsPower returns to Cheraw, having celebrated its 24th anniversary in 2009. ArtsPower is one of America’s preeminent nonprofit producers and presenters of professional theatre for young and family audiences. With over 1,000 performances annually, ArtsPower has amassed an audience of nearly nine million people in 47 states.
Tickets are $3 per person and available the day of the performance at Cheraw Intermediate School, or advance tickets can be purchased at the Cheraw Community Center, L & W Hair Salon, and Brown’s Gift Shop.

The Northeastern Rural Health Network along with the Chesterfield YMCA will be providing FREE health screening services for the community located at 344 East Blvd. Chesterfield from 8 a.m.-noon! Screening will consist of the following: Body Mass Index (BMI), Blood Pressure, Blood Glucose (Sugar), Total Cholesterol, and Health Risk Assessment. For accurate results, please do not eat or drink anything other than water for eight hours prior to the screening. The Cheraw Arts Commission will once again sponsor a Fine Arts Show during this year’s Cheraw Spring Festival March 26-28 for Chesterfield County residents. This will be our 22nd show. There will be three categories: visual artwork, photography, and fine crafts. There will be a first, second, third place and honorable mention for 9-12 grades, adult amateur and adult professional divisions. All entries K-8 are winners! Art work must be delivered to the Community Center. No work will be accepted before these dates due to space limitations. No entries will be accepted after March 19 at 5:00pm. Cheraw Alcoholics Anonymous meetings are held in Cheraw Saturday through Wednesday. Open speaker meetings are held Sundays at 8 p.m. On Mondays a Big Book study group meets at 8 p.m. The sharing group meets on Tuesdays at noon; Wednesdays at 8 p.m. is a closed discussion group and Saturdays at noon there is 12 and 12 study groups. The Cheraw Recreation and Leisure Services Department will be offering an exercise class called “The Three M’s: Mix, Match & Move”. Classes will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 7:00 a.m. - 8:00 a.m. Bring a towel, no restrictions on age, weight, etc. Everybody welcome. Yoga Classes will be offered on Tuesdays from 4:00 - 5:00 p.m. and Thursday evenings from 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. Classes will begin February 15 and run for six weeks (until March 25th). The South Carolina Division, United Daughters of the Confederacy, is working on chartering a new UDC chapter in the Cheraw/Bennettsville area. We have three women who are interested in starting this chapter. We need seven prospects to apply for a charter.

The Cheraw Ministerial Alliance announces a series of Wed. lunches and devotional services for the observance of he Christian season of Lent. Each Wed. Feb. 17 through March 24, the First Baptist Church of Cheraw will be the site of a noon Lenten lunch and devotional service. Leading the services will be Cheraw area pastors.
